Patna gets its first ever woman mayor

Sita Sahu, a homemaker and mother of three children, has created history by becoming the first ever woman mayor of Patna. She assumed the charge on June 20, 2017.

Sita is a first time councillor. In the Patna Municipal Corporation elections that were held on June 4, she had scraped through by just three votes, defeating her nearest rival Rajni Rai from Ward Number 58 of the Patna City area. this time the mayor’s post was reserved for woman.

Sahu has already set her priorities. To keep the city clean is the topmost in her agenda alongwith providing safe drinking water and removing encroachments. But as she makes history by becoming the first woman to become the city’s mayor, she said emphatically in an interview to the Times of India that “Nari ko abla nahin rahne doongi. I will work to empower them.”
