Patna: Gangotri Devi, the 75-year old sister of incarcerated RJD Chief Lalu Prasad who was confident of God protecting her brother during trial of fodder scam faced the cruel reality when she herself could not be shielded from death.

Gangotri Devi breathed her last at the servant quarter of Patna Veterinary College here today as she could not bear the shock of her brother being sentenced three and half years of imprisonment in yet another case of fodder scam by special CBI court of Ranchi yesterday.

She was on fast yesterday and had prayed to God for minimum sentence of three years in the case which could have enabled Lalu to get bail and release from the jail. She was ill for the last few days and her condition had deteriorated further after conviction of Mr Prasad in fodder scam on December 23.

Gangotri Devi was Lalu’s only sister and her body has been taken to her in-laws house in Gopalganj for cremation.

Meanwhile, Lalu’s son Tejaswi Prasad Yadav had tried to contact Jailer of Birsa Munda Central jail in Ranchi to inform about the incident, where he is presently lodged after conviction in fodder scam.

Tejaswi and his brother Tej Pratap Yadav had rushed to the residence of their aunty Gangotri Devi at Veterinary College premises to pay tributes to the departed soul, soon after they learnt about her death.
